Check Out Port Jefferson in Suffolk County!

Port Jefferson is an incorporated village of approximately 7,600 people with a medium age of 37.8 and whose median family income is 84,650 dollars. These folks are the residential part of this bustling village where restaurants, shops and tourist meld to form the commercial scene.

The Bridgeport Port Jefferson ferry brings boat loads of tourists to the village during the warm months. They disembark, eager for cold beer, cold ice cream, warm meals, and warm charm too. These tourists are joined by others from neighboring communities who are also drawn by the lure of shops, salt air, water and pleasure boats.

This summer, the boat theme will expand with in-harbor cruises available on the paddle-wheeler, Martha Jefferson. The Port Jefferson historical society will add historic narratives to these tours as a complement to the view.

Village streets are bright in every season-hanging baskets of flowers in summer, holiday greenery in winter.

The village has a Mayor and trustees, and it's own peace officers as well.

The Port Jefferson school district is small. Students say the personal attention they receive is hall mark.

The Port Jefferson Free Library offers a broad collection of books, a fine, complement of services, and a user friendly staff.

East Main Street is a shoppers delight, with specialty shops and antique stores, bead stores and craft shops, imported gifts, a candle store and a crystal shop.

On Main Street, Theater Three provides quality shows, which range from drama to musical comedy. Non-professional casts provide very professional panache.

If dinner before the show is your idea of an evening out, you can choose between steak and burgers, and for ambiance, you can select anything from cozy to elegance.

There's plenty of history in this village, much of it tied to the ship building years. There is in fact, a treasure trove of Victoriana here.

In 1995, Forbes Magazine listed Port Jefferson among the top one hundred places to live outside a major metropolis.

Visit and see if you agree. You might want to spend a lifetime here!

Real Estate Tips
First Time Buyers >Questions from Real Estate Agents

Real estate agents begin their professional relationship with buyers by asking numerous questions about the buyer's personal and financial situation. The answers to these questions will give the real estate agent a clear idea about the buyer's housing needs and price range. It is a waste of time for an agent to show a buyer homes they can't afford, and it can be disheartening to consider unrealistic possibilities.

In order to do a great job finding you a home, your real estate agent needs to have some basic information about your income, debts, and the amount of cash you have available for a purchase. Your agent also needs to know something about your lifestyle. How large is your family? Where do you work? Do you have school-age children? Do you enjoy entertaining? What hobbies would you like to accommodate?

The real estate agent who helps you find your new home will get to know you very well, so it is very important that you feel comfortable with that person and free to communicate openly.
